  • What is an attar?
    An attar is a perfume oil concentrate, traditionally distilled in copper stills in the Middle East and South Asia. Unlike a Western alcohol-based perfume, it has no carrier alcohol - just the aromatic oil and a neutral base. The result is a quieter projection and a much longer skin life.
  • How long does perfume oil last compared to alcohol perfume?
    On most skins, 8 to 12 hours, with the heart and base notes still readable at the end of the day. An alcohol-based eau de parfum projects more in the first hour and fades faster.
  • Are these perfume oils alcohol-free?
    Yes. Both Sharqiyah and Love Charm are alcohol-free oil perfumes, sold as roll-ons. They are suitable for buyers who avoid alcohol-based cosmetics for personal or religious reasons. Always check the back of the bottle for the full INCI list.
  • How do I apply perfume oil?
    Dab the roll-on on pulse points - inside wrists, behind the ears, base of the neck, inside elbows. Do not rub the wrists together; it crushes the top notes. Re-apply once after 6 to 8 hours if you want the projection back.
  • How do I layer perfume oil with my regular fragrance?
    Apply the perfume oil first to clean, warm skin and let it absorb for two or three minutes - this gives the base notes time to bloom. Layer an alcohol perfume or one of our body splashes on top. Our Damascus rose body splash and Imperial Jasmine body splash both pair well with Sharqiyah; the heavier Love Charm prefers solo wear.
  • Will perfume oil stain clothes?
    Concentrated oil applied directly to silk or pale-coloured fabric can mark. Let the oil dry on skin (about 30 seconds) before dressing, and apply to skin rather than to fabric.
  • Are these unisex?
    The whole range is unisex. Oud, frankincense, musk and rose are worn by everyone in the regions these scents come from - the European gendering of perfume notes is a recent invention.
